SEATTLE — A man accused of interfering with flight attendants aboard an Aer Lingus flight from Ireland to Seattle will remain in federal custody pending a detention hearing next week.
James Bradley Noble made his initial appearance Monday in U.S. District Court in Seattle on a charge of interference with flight crew members and attendants.
Federal prosecutors requested that Noble remain detained pending further proceedings. A magistrate judge ruled that the threshold for a detention hearing had been met and ordered Noble held in custody. The hearing is scheduled for June 30.
According to court records, Noble is charged in connection with an incident aboard Aer Lingus Flight EI 53 during a June 19 flight from Dublin to Seattle.
Federal authorities allege Noble became disruptive after consuming alcohol and engaged in threatening and aggressive behavior toward passengers and crew members.
An FBI complaint alleges Noble harassed a passenger seated next to him and later aggressively grabbed a flight attendant from behind. Authorities say he also threatened a crew member and resisted efforts by flight attendants to restrain him.
According to the complaint, flight attendants cleared nearby passengers from the area and eventually used handcuffs and seat restraints to secure Noble.
The filing states that approximately seven flight attendants were involved in restraining him and that his behavior disrupted normal cabin operations for several hours.
Federal investigators allege Noble's actions forced flight attendants to suspend cabin service and prevented them from performing their normal duties. He is charged under a federal statute prohibiting interference with flight crew members and attendants.
Court records show U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian A. Tsuchida scheduled Noble's detention hearing for 10 a.m. June 30. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 6.
