The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the proposed University of Science and Technology in Damongo will focus on emerging fields including artificial intelligence, robotics and digital sciences.<\/p>\n
He said the project forms part of the government\u2019s broader plan to expand access to quality tertiary education and develop the human capital needed to drive Ghana\u2019s economic transformation.<\/p>\n
Haruna Iddrisu disclosed this after engaging the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Cong Song, on the proposed university on Wednesday, September 2.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Damongo University is envisaged as a centre of excellence in Science and Technology, Robotics, Digital Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, and other emerging disciplines," he wrote in a social media post.<\/p>\n
According to the Education Minister, the government secured a US$30 million grant from the Chinese government last year to commence the project.<\/p>\n
He said the university would not be limited to the construction of physical infrastructure but would be developed as a centre for advanced scientific and technological education.<\/p>\n
The institution is expected to train young people in disciplines that can support Ghana\u2019s technological advancement and contribute to the transformation of the economy.<\/p>\n
Haruna Iddrisu said the project is also linked to President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s vision of establishing universities in regions that currently do not have one.<\/p>\n
