An official report from the Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) described the alarming episode<\/a> as an "aircraft upset" \u2014 terminology applied when a plane inadvertently moves beyond its intended flight parameters.<\/p>\n According to the newly published findings, the flight's commander informed investigators he "did not sleep well the night before the flight and that he may have been tired." But as they arrived too high and too fast, the commander disengaged the autopilot to fully deploy the aircraft's speed brakes.<\/p>\n However, this choice to operate the jet manually resulted in "degraded situational awareness," according to the AAIU.
