Telit Cinterion Brings Cellular IoT Module Manufacturing to the U.S.

Telit Cinterion will begin manufacturing 4G and 5G IoT modules and connected products in Pennsylvania in October 2026, adding a U.S. production option aimed particularly at customers where supply-chain traceability and trusted sourcing have become procurement considerations.

For cellular IoT hardware, where a product is manufactured is increasingly becoming part of the technology decision. This is particularly true for equipment destined for critical infrastructure, defense and other sensitive environments, where organizations may need greater visibility into manufacturing, testing and the underlying supply chain.

Telit Cinterion is responding to that shift by adding U.S.-based manufacturing to its global production footprint. The company plans to begin operations at a new facility in Bristol, Pennsylvania, in October 2026, producing cellular IoT modules as well as OEM products including routers and gateways.

A domestic manufacturing option for cellular IoT

The 8,000-square-foot facility will incorporate manufacturing, testing and quality assurance. Engineering and supply-chain support will come from Telit Cinterion’s existing U.S. operations in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and Boca Raton, Florida.

The initial phase is expected to create at least 50 jobs. Telit Cinterion says the site will manufacture 4G and 5G IoT modules for both U.S. and international markets, alongside customer products built around its technology.

What makes the announcement notable is therefore less the addition of another production site than where that capacity is being located and which customers it is intended to address. Telit Cinterion specifically connects the investment with critical infrastructure, defense and mission-critical applications, sectors where the origin and traceability of communications hardware can matter alongside conventional criteria such as radio performance, certification and cost.

Manufacturing becomes part of IoT supply-chain strategy

The move also represents an evolution of Telit Cinterion’s manufacturing strategy. In 2023, the company announced a manufacturing partnership with VVDN Technologies in India covering modules, data cards and custom products, describing manufacturing location at the time as an increasingly important consideration for technology buyers.

The Pennsylvania investment takes that logic a step further by establishing manufacturing directly in the United States. For OEMs and system integrators serving regulated or security-sensitive markets, this potentially creates another sourcing option without requiring a change of module supplier or technology platform.

That distinction matters. Onshoring does not by itself alter the radio capabilities of an IoT module, but it can change the procurement characteristics surrounding it. Customers may gain a shorter and more visible manufacturing chain for selected products, while Telit Cinterion can perform production, testing and quality assurance domestically for deployments where those factors carry additional weight.

Supply-chain resilience moves closer to product design

The broader implication is that cellular module vendors are increasingly being evaluated on more than their technology portfolios. Manufacturing geography, supply-chain transparency and the ability to support specific regulatory or procurement requirements are becoming another layer of differentiation, particularly as connected devices extend deeper into national infrastructure and operational technology environments.

For Telit Cinterion, the Bristol facility is described as the first phase of a longer-term expansion of its U.S. manufacturing capabilities. The company has not disclosed additional capacity targets or subsequent phases, but says the initiative is intended to support further investment in domestic manufacturing, workforce development and supply-chain resilience.
