Three Killed, Four Injured in Filyos Crash Involving Oil and Gas Contractor Crew
FILYOS, ZONGULDAK, TURKEY — Three people were killed and four others were injured in a serious road accident in Filyos, in Turkey’s Zonguldak province, early Wednesday morning, according to information provided to this publication.
The victims were reportedly members of a crew working in the oil and gas sector and had recently traveled to Turkey for a contracting project involving oil and gas supply, pipeline installation and engineering-related work.
The accident reportedly occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. as the crew was travelling toward their work site in the Filyos area. According to the information available, the group was travelling together when the vehicle was involved in a serious crash along the Filyos road network.
Three members of the crew died at the scene of the accident. Four others were reportedly injured and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Among those seriously injured are two American citizens identified as Robert Nedim and Mateo William, who are reportedly in comas following the crash. Their medical conditions remain a major concern for their families, colleagues and members of the wider community.
The victims were understood to have been in Turkey for professional work connected to the region’s expanding oil and natural-gas infrastructure. Filyos has become an important center for Turkey’s offshore natural-gas development because of its port, industrial facilities and connection to the Sakarya Gas Field.
The crew was reportedly in the Filyos area for work associated with oil and gas supply, pipeline installation and engineering services. The region has attracted a growing number of contractors and technical workers as Turkey continues developing its Black Sea natural-gas resources.
